Examination Types

The following examples of examination types have been used effectively in a wide range of investigations, such as murders, counter-terrorism, complex & organised fraud, money laundering, drug movements & dealing, sex crime, nuisance/malicious correspondence, stalking and a variety of civil litigation such as contestation of signatures:

  • Comparison of handwriting; to determine whether or not documents share common authorship (that is, written by the same person) or to identify a specific individual as the writer by comparing the handwriting in questioned with a specimen set of that individual.
  • Comparison of signatures; authentication of genuine signatures and the identification of forgeries.
  • Examination and interpretation of indented impressions of handwriting.
  • General microscopic examination and comparison of documents with a view to determining age, handling history, sequencing, origins etc.
  • Examination and comparison of documents printed using office technology with a view to determine their source.
  • Examination of security documents to authenticate, detect counterfeits or identify tampering.
  • Examination of questioned documents for alterations, erasures, obliterations and insertions.
  • Non-destructive examination and comparisons of some paper and ink types with a view to linking documents together or to a common source.
